After the prime rib buffet of the night before, we really didn't expect to eat another buffet so early.
Yet, there we were at the Irma Hotel, conveniently sitting down for breakfast and thinking of ordering something light off menu, only to realize that the buffet was really the best option...
...so we ate off the buffet again!
It was at that moment that I asked the table to promise NOT to eat any more buffets - and we fortunately didn't.
But as I look back at that big (huge) breakfast, it probably helped us tremendously since we had decided to spend a day here...
...at the Buffalo Bill Historical Center.
Beyond this entrance...
...is a great lobby that opens up to various museums.
We first went in the direction of the Firearms...
...where there was a shooting gallery...
...ammo decor....
...mounts galore...
...a Gatling gun...
...and guns...
...guns...
...guns...
...guns...
...a kick-ass multi-bladed folding knife...
...with its own .22 caliber revolver...
...and more guns.
In the Western Art section...
...there were plenty of eating bears...
...lassoing cowboys...
...visitors posing with stationary sculptures...
...and bloggers filming the moving kind.
The Plain Indians section held historic and cultural Native American artifacts...
The Plain Indians section held historic and cultural Native American artifacts...
...clothing...
...and animal claw accessories.
The Greater Yellowstone area had plenty more mounts.
And, finally, there was the section on Buffalo Bill...
...which dealt with his life (his childhood home)...
...the people around him (like Annie Oakley from Ohio)...
...and his show that traveled the world...
...including various towns in Ohio.
Easily 4 hours had passed at the Center, but we still wanted more...
...so we continued on to Old Trail Town...
...where original Old West buildings were placed together to be viewed at once.
And we saw a General Store...
...a classroom...
...a home...
...Curley's cabin...
...(this is Curley)...
...a rendezvous cabin of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid...
...and even the resting spots...
...of Belle Drewry...
...John Colter...
...Jim Bridger...
...and Jeremiah "Liver Eating" Johnson.
But there were some other things worth noting, so here's a collection of photos that I took while touring the place...
***********************************
Although we were starting to tire down, we still ran across the street...
...to Tecumseh's Trading Post...
...to check out the Old West Miniature Village while Dad had a cigar outside.
Afterward, we had just enough time to eat dinner in downtown Cody at the Rib and Chop House where I had tuna (which was originally cooked well instead of only seared) and both Rocky and Dad got an incredible 16 ounce Buffalo Ribeye for $32...
...(I ate some of their fillet)...
...enjoy a beer with some entertainment...
...and then make our way to Stampede Park...
...for some lassoing...
...exciting bronco riding (with crash)...
...and even some bronco tumbling.
I think you would agree that we had a full day!
.
I was at the rodeo the same night as you and saw that cowboy fly over the fence and land on the barrel! Ouch! Kind of makes you want to jump on to the back of a bucking horse right?! I don't think so!
ReplyDeleteWhat a small world!
DeleteYeah, I felt so bad for the guy. I was happy when he eventually got up.
