Susan needed one more good day to rest her foot, so Mom, Julia, Max and I headed out to Pisa to see some monuments and visit a cousin of ours who studied there.
We got to Pisa without a problem and found a parking area easily enough, but we had some difficulty finding the monuments.
This was basically my fault because, after asking someone the direction of the monuments, I should have asked again shortly afterwards. Honestly, I should have known that a large tourist market across the street would have led us to the monuments.
But we passed the market and kept going and I finally pulled out the navigation and used international data to slowly learn that we were moving farther and farther away.
I asked again, we turned around...
...and we found this doorway on the other side of the market.
Through it, we found the Field of Miracles...
...with the Leaning Tower...
...and the rest of the picturesque square.
Therefore, we took plenty of pictures!
When our cousin Camilla arrived with her boyfriend Giuseppe...
...we took even more pictures.
It was great to see them!
We got a quick sandwich lunch before heading back...
...and then prepared for another night out.
This time, we went to La Cecca - a restaurant only a 5 minute walk from the villa.
Susan and Julia entertained Max with finger puppets...
...and he was pretty delighted by the show.
Dishes we enjoyed included fried bread...
...stuffed zucchini flowers...
...steak tartare...
...pigeon risotto...
...and tripe.
And when Max wasn't looking at a slightly older blond girl eating spaghetti and shellfish across the room...
