Italy 2015 - Part 7 - Pinocchio

Sunday, June 21, 2015

This was Father's Day (not celebrated on this day in Italy...it's in March there) and I really have very, very, very few photos to show for it.

Everyone let me sleep in and I awoke to an alarm going off...

...because they obviously didn't finish the electrical work from before.

So we hung out with Play-Doh, took walks and most likely ate in.

There may have been some laundry involved.

When we were in Pisa, Camilla said that she would check and see if she had any nduja (nn-do-yah), a spreadable sausage made of smoked ground pork, chili peppers and a chili pepper sauce.

It turned out that she did and Ciccio brought it, since Camilla saw them the day before.

It was perfect for that morning's egg and toast!

That day, we took a road trip to Collodi...

 ...where everything was very Pinocchio.

 It was pretty cool!

Max fell asleep on the way, so we went to a bar for lunch...

...and enjoyed some pork, potatoes, salad and pasta.

After, we headed to Pinocchio Park...

 ...where there were murals...

 ...stained glass...

 ...mosaic...

...costumes...

...statues...

...scary Mangiafuoco displays...

...and so much more.

One of the highlights was the set of three antique carrousels...

...including this gondola carrousel that was pretty remarkable.

There was also a labyrinth-esque walk with character sculptures along the way...

...with some familiar faces...

...and then some characters...

...that we didn't remember or know from the book (these are rabbits carrying a coffin, for example).

Eventually we found the giant whale/shark (Disney/book)...

...which you could climb inside and come out at the top.

I think you can tell that we enjoyed it very much...

 ...especially Max.

When we got home, I enjoyed an artichoke, cheese, nduja cracker snack...

...and we ate picnic style for dinner with some roast chicken from the store, broccoli, octopus, pasta salad, fresh rolls and even more nduja.

Yummy!
